Thoughtful Packaging: What’s Inside the Parcel

I thought a new blog post was in order! It’s been a month—funnily enough, exactly to this day—and I’m determined to keep it going!

A big part of my approach to creating jewellery is keeping everything as ethical and earth-friendly as possible, and that extends to my packaging too.

When you receive a parcel from me, it holds a special piece of jewellery that I’ve handcrafted myself in my little home studio. And the way it arrives is just as important as the piece inside.

Every order is packed plastic-free—from the parcel tape I use to the jewellery box (more on that later!).

I like to keep things as transparent as possible, so you can find a little list of the packaging you’ll find in your parcel on my “about page”. I don’t include anything unnecessary, but I still want the unboxing to be a lovely experience for you. I thought I’d share a bit about three of my favourite packaging elements.

First up: the plantable wildflower seed cards. I always include a handwritten note with each order to show my gratitude for your support, and I wanted that note to be on something that gives back.

The cards are made with wildflower seeds—Sweet Alyssum, Poppy, Baby’s Breath, Rudbeckia, and Basil—and they’re super easy to plant. The best time to sow them is in the warmer months, ideally spring or summer.

Here’s how to use them:

Soak the card in water and tear it into small pieces.

Place the pieces in a pot of compost and lightly cover with more compost.

Keep the soil and paper moist (not soaking) in a warm, bright spot.

Once the seedlings are growing well, move the pot outside or onto a sunny windowsill.

My next favourite is the dried flower petals. These are collected by my little ones and me from our beautiful Camellia in the garden. We wait until the flowers fall naturally before gathering the petals, then dry them out in our sunroom. I always explain to my little ones that we don’t pick them off the plant, as the bees are still busy collecting pollen. Though no matter how many times I say it, a few fall victim to my nearly 3-year-old and do end up being picked, he just can’t help himself!

I love seeing my children's fascination with nature grow. They're always on the lookout for flowers, and our short pre-school trip often turns into a little nature walk—spotting blooms and stopping to smell the rosemary in a neighbour’s front garden.

Their love for the outdoors brings me so much joy. My heart is full, just the other day, my youngest stood by a hedge, giggling as the bees buzzed around him, collecting pollen.

And finally, the jewellery boxes. They’re made from kraft card, so they’re recyclable—but what makes them extra special is the insert. Most foam inserts are made from plastic, which we know isn’t great for the environment or our health. After lots of research, I found a lovely plastic-free alternative made using tall oil, a by-product of paper production.

While the box itself is recyclable, the insert isn’t currently accepted for recycling. But you can definitely reuse the box! It’s perfect for storing bobby pins, paper clips, pins, or even as a little trinket box (thoroughly tested by my two!).

So much thought goes into each parcel, and I hope opening yours brings you joy.

Warmly,

Georgia
